1937 – Born on 26th of August in Perevoz, Perevoz region, Gorky province, USSR. A Russian politician and statesman.


1962 – He joined in the Communist Party.


1963-1966 – Started working with Komsomol as a second secretary.


1966-1968 – The first secretary of the Komsomol organization in his home region, Gorky province. Yanayev was made Chairman of the Committee of the Youth Organizations of the USSR.


1980 – He became the deputy chairman of the Presidium of the Soviet Associations of Friendship and Cultural Relations with Foreign Countries.


1989 – From being a secretary for foreign affairs of the All-Union Central Council of Trade Unions, he was appointed as the chairman of the Central Council of Trade Unions.


1990 – President Mikhail Gorbachev nominated Yanayev for the post of Vice-President, but he failed to win the first vote at the Congress of People’s Deputies. Since Gorbachev refused to nominate another candidate, he became the Vice President of USSR.


1991 – He was arrested due to public disdain and treason.


1994 – He was granted with amnesty along with the alleged conspirators.
