American talk show host. 1971 – She won the "Miss Black Tennessee" when she was 18.- Graduated from East Nashville High School in Nashville, Tennessee. 1976 – Graduated from Tennessee State University. 1985 – Starred in movie "The Color Purple" as Sofia. 1986 – Host and eponym of nationally syndicated television show "The Oprah Winfrey Show".          – Dated and cohabited with self-help author Stedman Graham. 1987 – Received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Speech and Drama from Tennessee State University. 1989 – Earned her Academy of Achievement award. 1994 – Co-wrote the book "Oprah Winfrey: The Real Story" by George Mair.          – Inducted into the National Women’s Hall of Fame in Seneca, New York. 1996 – Introduced Oprah’s Book Club. 1998 – She was a cast in the movie  "Beloved" as Sethe. 1999 – Given an honorary National Book Award for her "influential contribution to reading and books". 2000 – She founded magazine "O: The Oprah Magazine".          – Recipient of the Spingarn Medal. 2005 – She was ranked by Business Week as one of America’s top 50 most generous philanthropists. 2006 – Collapsed from heat exhaustion during a recent visit to her hometown of Kosciusko, Mississippi. 2007 – Diagnosed with thyroid disorder.
