1935 – Candy Barr was born 6th of July in Edna, Texas. An American stripper, burlesque exotic dancer. 1951 – She appeared in one of the most famous underground pornographic movies, Smart Alec. – She said she was forced at 16 to play the lead in a grainy black-and-white erotic movie titled "Smart Aleck". 1956 – She shot her drunk and violent husband, and even though he wasn’t badly hurt, Barr’s manager actually arranged it with the sheriff to increase her bond because it made better press. 1957 – Barr performed for the first and only time on the legitimate stage playing the role of Rita Marlowe. – Played a comedy role in a legitimate theater in Dallas. 1959 – Her career was derailed when she was sentenced to 15 years in prison by a Dallas judge for possessing less than an ounce of marijuana. She served three years of that time then was released. 1960 – Served as a choreographer and technical adviser to Joan Collins for the film Seven Thieves. 1963 – As Juanita Dale Phillips she made a statement to the FBI on November 26th regarding her knowledge of Jack Ruby prior to the John F. Kennedy assassination and Ruby’s subsequent murder of Lee Harvey Oswald. 1970 – She had a brief weekend affair with Hugh Hefner. – She largely disappeared from public view, with the notable exception of a nude pictorial feature in Oui, done when she was 41. 1999 – Miss Barr was listed by Playboy magazine as one of the 20th century’s most desirable women. 2005 – She died at age 70 from complications of pneumonia at a hospital in Victoria, Texas. – Candy Barr is among the inductees in the Hall of Fame of Exotic World Burlesque Museum. 2009 – Book/WebSite published depicting the life and times of Candy Barr.
