Roh Moo Hyun

1946 – Born on September 1st in Gimhae, South Korea.  South Korean politician and lawyer, president of South Korea.

1968 – Roh worked as a night watchman in high school and later served in the military.

1975 – Although he did not attend college, he was able to pass the bar exam.

1977 – He was appointed a judge and later became a highly respected human rights lawyer.

1988 – He was elected to the national assembly and served on the special committee investigating government corruption.

1998 – Elected a second time, he subsequently served as maritime affairs and fisheries minister under President Kim Dae Jung.

2002 – South Koreans went to the polls and handed Roh Moo Hyun, a former opposition party leader, a narrow victory over Lee Hoi Chang in a tightly contested presidential race.

2003 – Proclaimed as the new President of South Korea.

2004 – His verbal support for the reformist Uri party, which split from the Millenium Democratic party, led to his impeachment by the national assembly because the constitution calls for the president to be politically neutral.
