Montgolfier, Jacques Etienne

Died: 1799 AD

1745 – Born August 6, in Annonay, South of Lyon, France. Born into a family of successful paper manufacturers. Unlike his brother Joseph, has more businesslike temperament and was called back to Annonay to take over the family business when their oldest brother died.


1782 – Conducted the first test flight with his brother Joseph. The test was successful but after reaching nearly two kilometers they lost control of the craft and was destroyed.


1783 – They made their first public demonstration at Annonay. September 19th when they flown the first living beings, a duck, sheep and a rooster in a basket infront of the royal palace in Versailles.
