1979 – He originally wore uniform #9 when he entered the National League, he switched to #10 when the league reorganized the umpires’ numbers and he wore that number for the rest of his career.

1986 – Home plate umpire during the Chicago Cubs/Philadelphia Phillies game at Veteran’s Stadium where the Phillies set an NL record with fifteen extra base hits in a 19-1 rout of the Cubs.

1996 – Died infatal heart attack he suffered on the field during the opening game of the major league season in Cincinnati, Ohio on the 1st of April.
