Daley, Richard Joseph

1902 – Born in Chicago’s South Side near the stockyards on the 15th of May.


1953 – Served as Chairman of the Cook County Democratic Central Committee.


1955-1976 – Elected mayor of Chicago.


1933 – Daley took night classes at DePaul University College of Law to earn a Juris Doctor.


1936 – Married Eleanor "Sis" Guilfoyle on 17th of June.


1966 – Martin Luther King, Jr. confronted the Daley machine when King attempted to take the Civil Rights Movement.


1968 – Castigated for his sharp rhetoric in the aftermath of rioting that took place after Martin Luther King, Jr.’s assassination.


1972 – Democratic nominee George McGovern threw Daley out of the Democratic National Convention.


1976 – On 20th of December, he suffered a massive heart attack while visiting his doctor’s office and died at the age of 74.
