Altman, Sidney

1939 – Sidney Altman was born in Montreal, Quebec on the 7th of May.

1960 – He received his bachelor’s degree in physics from Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

1967 – He received his Ph.D. in biophysics from the University of Colorado.

1967-1969 – He was a molecular biology fellow at Harvard University.

1969-1970 – He was a molecular biology fellow at the University of Cambridge.

1971 – He became an assistant professor at Yale University.

1972 – He married to Ann Korner.

1980 – He was promoted as a professor at Yale University.

1983-1985 – He was a Chairman in their department.

1984 – He took U.S. citizenship.

1985 – He became the Dean of Yale College.

1985-1989 – He served as Dean of the undergraduate Yale College.

1989 – He returned to the post of professor on a fulltime basis on the 1st of July. He shared the Nobel Prize in Chemistry with Thomas R. Cech for their work on the catalytic properties of RNA.
